One of the artists selected from a nationwide call for entry for Maryland Federation of Art "Small Wonders" Exhibition by Linda Crocker Simmons, curator for the Corcoran Gallery of Art. This annual show features 2D and 3D works measuring 12 inches sq or less. I am exhibiting a lovely little abstract piece, handcarved from a small block of Brazilian soapstone, called "Forgotten Space." The three intersecting holes add a feeling of weightlessness to the copper-hued stone.

SCULPTING WITH LIGHT A solo show featuring unique 3D holograms
Exhibition: September 26th – October 19, 2019
Artist Meet & Greet: October 6th 3-5 pm

As a result of a HoloCenter (NYC) award, I was fortunate to be able to utilize the facilities at the Ohio State University Physics Laboratory to make holographic recordings of one of my popular stone artworks, “Chief”. Under the guidance of Professor Kagan, I used various holographic processes to create holograms with different visual effects – some are rainbow colored, some are monochromatic. The resulting 3D images are exact copies of the carved rock figure except that they are sculpted with light! The exhibit also includes some holographic "selfies" and some vintage holograms.

Contrasts in Composition
Exhibition: July 5 – July 23, 2019
Reception: Saturday, July 6, 2019 5-8pm
Art at Leeds, a unique gallery located 2 hours north of New York City, is currently exhibiting a collection of new and vintage holograms produced by artist Alan Rhody as part of its Contrast in Composition show. Rhody primarily works as a stone sculptor, handcrafting marble, alabaster, and soapstone artworks. In addition to this ancient craft, he also utilizes modern technologies to create another type of 3D imagery. “Thirty five years ago, I was fortunate to be able to live and work in the San Francisco Bay area when display holography was blossoming. My holo-career encompassed sales, exhibition, marketing, education, and journalism. Whenever the opportunity arose, I took classes or rented lab time to make my own holograms." "After a long hiatus, I recently resumed hologram production at Ohio State University Physics Dept as part of a HoloCenter artist residency program. My current installation integrates the same imagery sculpted in both stone and light (the former as a sculpture, the latter as wall-mounted reflection holograms and freestanding transmission holograms). And some self-portraits of me sculpting, captured by Dr Harris Kagan.” In addition to his own art, Rhody is showing holograms from his personal collection, featuring noteworthy works from Bob Hess, Lon Moore, Greg Cherry, Mike Madora and Third Dimension, Ltd.
